Miramax says it has “won the bid to option” the feature film rights to Matthew Quick‘s latest novel The Reason You’re Alive for Allison Shearmur (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Cinderella), to produce. Quick, who wrote The Silver Linings Playbook, will adapt his latest book about a Vietnam war veteran who, post brain surgery, must atone for a decades-old injustice in order to reconnect with his peace-loving art dealer son. The Reason You’re Alive comes out next year from Harper, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers.
Quick’s debut novel Silver Linings Playbook was adapted into the Academy Award winning film of the same name. The Reason You’re Alive is the latest of his novels that have been scooped up for possible films, including Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock, The Good Luck of Right Now, Sorta Like a Rockstar, Love May Fail and Every Exquisite Thing.
David Thwaites will oversee development and production for MIRAMAX. Stephen Meinen will
oversee development and production for Allison Shearmur Productions.
Quick is repped by ICM and Sterling Lord Literistic.
