Chilean Gothic

"Lovecraft is alive and well in Chile. That is, in this Chilean low-budget film all too familiar with the slimy, creepy-crawly sick terrain of the Master of Ctchulthu. Here we are served with a diabolical version of Pickman´s Model, this one taking place on an island where all legends thrive -the island of Chiloé-. Anyone who catches a glimpse of the monsters that really exist but cannot be seen will disappear into the magic. On the other hand, as director Ricardo Harrington so nicely puts it, Chile is gothic. Not only because of the things in its religious images, but also because of "the reign of terror wich we lived through for so many years" (San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Film Week 2000).
