Simon Pummell works with moving images across multiple platforms, exploring the boundaries of cinematic forms including: feature film, animation film, artist’s television, and large-scale projection in the live theatre.

These works have won him internationally recognition, including numerous international awards, and film festival career retrospectives. His work has been shown at Venice IFF (Gala opening night short film,) Berlin IFF (Panorama Selection), Rotterdam IFF (Tiger Competition) and awarded the Grand Prix at Oberhausen, a BAA (British Animation Award), a BAFTA (British Academy Award) and a BIFA (British Independent Film Award) among many other awards.

In 2005/6 he received a UK National Endowment for Science, Technology & Art Dream Time Research Fellowship. In 2008/9 he continued his research with a Harvard University Film Study Center Fellowship.

In 2010 his transmedia project Bodysong was re-released as a British Film Institute Collectors Edition DVD & book.

He is currently in post-production on the documentary Shock Head Soul and the installation The Sputnik Effect.

He is working on the series of installations Atlas for Animate Bodies and finalising the screenplay for the feature film Brand New U.

He is Course Director of the Lens-Based Media Design & Communication Programme, Piet Zwart Institute of Post-Graduate studies & Research, Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam University.
