Série de tv de antologia britânica produzida pela Thames Television e exibida originalmente pela ITV Network em 2 temporadas c/ 13 episódios cada. A inspiração e título vem de uma série de antologias ‘The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes: Early Detective Stories’ publicadas em 1970 de autoria de Hugh Greene, executivo, jornalista da tv britânica e diretor-geral da BBC de 1960 a 1969.
